Omnitec raises an interesting problem in a new Tip.it article. The problem is about players not willing to participate in in-game Tip.it events unless some kind of monetary/status reward is at stake.
Quite honestly I haven't experienced this problem myself. The events I participated in were organized by much smaller communities (like Canting Away festivals, Runetower or Runewise events). While there were a few activities with rewards attached, I don't think there was a single person who would come to those events because of the rewards. Quite on contrary, people were willing to sacrifice their experience and money in order to make it fun for everybody.
So, is there indeed a problem? Is that the case where size of the community is a deciding factor?
Does the problem appear in clans too or only on really big sites?

Jagex announcing in game events
Something Jagex started to do a few months ago with great success: announcing in game events from various fan sites and by themselves using Twitter. A few days ago they pretty much opened it to everyone here. So if you are setting up an event and looking for more publicity, give it a shot.

Spontaneous Runescape Events
Gee, I am so glad Merch Gwyar resumed her Runescape blog :-)
Yet another wonderful post, this time about spontaneous Runescape events and flash mobs. I love them too. While clan and fan site organized events are more grandeur, these little street performances are truly awesome. The don't fill me with awe, but I just can't stop grinning happily after I witness one of those.

Runescape Guards Invasion
One of those awesome and somewhat creepy "Grand Central" type events big fan sites and clans do in Runescape from time to time. Scale of this one is truly amazing.
