Jagex's 2009 Financial Report

I am simply swamped IRL. It's all good: work and mapping, but to the degree that I haven't even logged into Runescape during the last 3 days... It should come back to normal later this week, I hope.

Another link I'd like to point you to is Mod MMG's Q&A. You probably saw it already, but still. My personal highlight from there is this one: "we find only about 10% of our players are PvPers". Nice, hard number to put PvP problems in proper perspective.

Runescape Wiki

I am happy to announce that both Runewise and Runescape Reader's Digest are officially affiliated (exchanged links) with Runescape Wiki. I honestly don't think Runescape Wiki needs much of an introduction here, as I bet you already know about this site. It is awesome.

It is also amazing to see a site like that built (and prospering) under "wiki democracy" governing model. Just like wikipedia, it shows that people are willing to work together and are able to agree on things. And that includes Runescape players :-)

I also have to admit that the affiliation application process was very educational for me. Long but not hard and totally unlike usual peer to peer connections Runescape fan sites maintain. I don't know why Jagex hasn't recognized Runescape Wiki yet, but won't be surprised if the reason is in the absence of a way to establish non public peer to peer communication channel with an owner (of course, there is no owner).

Anyway, I am very glad that we are affiliated now.

First, I want to apologize for disappearing for so long. I've been heads down delivering an extremely urgent project IRL and wasn't doing anything else, but hopefully I am back on track now :)

Today's link is to a good summary of Mod MMG questions and answers session from Zelda. It was definitely a good idea to do this session again, I am quite excited about some of the future items mentioned in the answers.

Also link to Aximili E I post about RSC related answer. Future RSC revival is getting more and more real.

Questions for Mark Gerhard

Well, below is my question for the new Jagex's CEO which I left on the RS forum. I can't even imagine how Mark will be able to deal with all 6000+ questions out there, but I do hope for the best.

Could you please clarify Jagex's position toward fan sites? Will the "openness" somehow apply to fan sites and communities established there?

Unfortunately, the whole area is very shady. For instance, it is prohibited to mention fan sites inside the game, while it is allowed to mention some clan sites. There is a thin line between clan and fan sites however... Also in the past there were several occasions when Jagex expressed distrust and displeasure with fan sites (and doing it in a very general way), which naturally lead to players often being hostile to all fan sites regardless of whether fan sites promote RWT and cheating or not.

Would you consider establishing some kind of "clearance" procedure for fan site, which fan site owners could apply for and obtain "cleared" status in case their sites are free from cheating, RWT ads or other types of rules breaking behavior?

Take a look at most common "in game" questions, official answers and what is going on behind the scene. I always suspected that being a player mod requires a lot of patience, but I never truly realized how much!
