Fish Flingers Helper Tool

Just to let you know, there is a new tool at Runewise, called Fish Flingers Helper (start it from the main menu). It helps to keep track of fish, baits, locations, hooks, and weights during the Fish Flingers minigame - so if you play it, you might find the tool helpful.

Conquest in Runescape

I guess it's about time I write about Conquest. So many people have already praised this new minigame, what can I add?

Well, only the fact that I didn't like it that much. I am afraid I'll stick with chess... I mean, I like the concept and I like these kinds of games in general (Chess, Yo-gi-oh and Magic the Gathering are among my favorites), but I just don't feel good about Conquest. Don't know what it is. Maybe the field is too big and I don't like scrolling that much, or the setting and figures are too gloomy, or champions are too overpowered, or all of that together. In any case, I'm not playing this minigame...

Speaking about champions, apparently there is already a "normal" setup with three of them, which is simple and overpowering in its simplicity. That's not good. Helm Lardar is talking about it here.

Fun vs Grind in Runescape

Good article on Zybez about separation between having fun and getting exp in Runescape. The author complains that most interesting minigames in Runescape doesn't give you enough experience (if any), so in order to advance in the game one simply have to grind it through. In general, it is true, though there is always an option to diversify your activities thus avoiding a grinding trap. But that's beside the point.

As far as minigames go, most of them, indeed, do not offer enough experience or rewards to substitute regular skilling activities, though, author forgot to mention notable exceptions such as Pest Control, Pyramid Plundering and Brimhaven Agility Arena (yes, it is a minigame too).

Also I completely disagree with aithor's assessment of Stealing Creations minigame. In my opinion Stealing Creations is great for skillers and actually confirms a new trend in Jagex's strategy for minigames. The trend which I personally like very much. Look at the latest minigames such as Stealing Creations, Fist of Guthix and Great Orb Project. What connects them is the fact that by playing these fun games you obtain items which allow to advance in a particular skill much faster (but for a limited amount of time). So now, instead of grinding your way through, players have an option to switch between minigames and skilling activities without a risk of burning themselves out in any of them. I think it is just great and hope that Jagex will continue this trend.

Looks good, the great minigame is going to become even more rewarding, but the question is how to spend those points to put them below 200K?

Runescape Minigames

Good article about Runescape Minigames from ZacharyB. Not an overview, but thoughtful look at the nature of these games and player's motives behind.

It is fascinating how huge is the minigames variety. I don't know anyone who would say that he/she does not like all of them. There are always at least one minigame that suites person's personality and style of play. It is also fascinating how different are people's preferences. Ask ten random players about their favorite minigame and you'll get 8-9 different answers!

P.S. Anyway, if you wonder, my favorite is Barbarian Assault. What is yours?

How to play Defender in Barbarian Assault minigame

Excellent guide from Merch Gwyar. I've been playing this minigame for so long, but there are still several things in this guide I had no idea about.

Vinesweeper Minigame and falling sky, again...

Passionate and angry article from Qeltar about why Vinesweeper minigame did NOT de-evaluate Farming skill. Basically, I agree with the author. Runescape is evolving and there is no point in complaining about new players raising old skills in new ways. It's just plain stupid.
Plus, I personally don't see why Vinesweeper is presumably ruining anything. It is a pleasant, smart (comparing to many others), relaxing game. Not overpowered, but still rewarding. I found myself coming there and playing for a few minutes now and then during my regular farming runs. Not because of XP, but just because I like it. Excellent addition to my favorite skill. Great way to get white berry and poison ivy seeds too.
