Imps The Magicians!

I love this kind of observations: "Imps can teleport inside the magic guild. Does that mean they have 66+ magic?"
Indeed Imps The Magicians, anyone?

Another link is to a new "point-counterpoint" from Troacctid. This one about dualism within the Runescape community.

All those thing I am doing wrong

Kitt Fox posted a list of things she does not do in a right way in Runescape according to the conventional wisdom. Apparently I am not doing much better myself, take a look:

Slayer
- no super/extreme pots (well, I use them)
- no piety/turmoil (check)
- no cannon (I use cannon whenever I can)
- no Guthan's armor (check)
- don't complete clues ASAP (check)
- no combat familiars (check)

Agility
- don't run at Ape Atoll (check)

Mining
- don't drop ores (check)

Construction
- no servant (I have a butler and he is busy!)
- no oak doors (check)

Runecrafting
- no graahking (check)
- no abyssal minion (check)
- don't bank at ZMI (check, in fact no ZMI at all)
- use all pouches (check)

Farming
- no daily herbs runs (check, and never had)

Hunter
- no red chins (check)

Dungeoneering
- don't rush (check)
- don't run 5:5 larges (check)
- kill everything except dino cows (check)
- check every room (check)
- haven't switched to 2h (well, I didn't switch because I started with it from the beginning)

Plus I don't do any of the distractions and diversions things, unless I run into one accidentally. Yeap, I don't even look for penguins. Yet, I like playing and feel good about the way I play the game.

The point here is that there is no a single right way to train any of the skills. Everybody can and should train skills in a way they feel like it regardless whether it is efficient, money making or whatever. One of the worst things you can do to your friends in Runescape is to force them to play the game exactly in a way you think it is right to do. Just remember, guides are just that - guides, they are not requirements. Take them easy, please.

Teleports in Runescape

Sometime I wish we wouldn't have so many teleport spells and options in Runescape. Especially after reading stories like this one from Kitt. I seriously do want parts of Gielinor separated from each other, so we could actually feel the size of the Runescape world. With all these teleports, the world is tiny. I can get from pretty much any spot to any other spot in a matter of seconds (possibly with an exception of Burgh de Rott). I mean a trip to a distant shore to get some rare fish species (aka monkfish) should be an expedition which takes time and involves fatigue and perils of the journey!

I know it not going to happen, but I wish Jagex would disable ALL teleports for a few days. That'd be fun!

Meanwhile, I would encourage you to try and live a few days without using teleports. You won't regret it, I promise.

My level is...

Next time you are temped to announce one of your awesome skill levels in public, think, maybe it's not a good time to do so. Thank you, Kitt.

They say ants are strong...

They say ants can carry a load several times heavier than their weight. Impressive? Maybe. But not when comparing to Runescape Implings. These tiny creatures not only carry enormous weight but also manage to fly around with it. Yeah, and I bet you always took it for granted. I did, anyway...

Thanks to Kitt Fox for the observation.

NoobScape

Welcome back, Kitt.

And, yes, I am ready to admin my "noobishness". If nothing else, it puts me in a good company :)

How can you not make money on Runsecape?

Steve is talking about various easy ways to make money in Runescape. Good and useful read.

P.S. I also would like to share this gem about Kitt's experiences at Fishing Trawler today (made my day):

My experience today should not cloud my judgment since there were at least 50 people plugging up holes in the ship’s hull. I got auto kicked for lack of activity simply because I wasn’t fast enough to plug holes or fix netting (there was no chance to bail either).

So... why do we kill things?

Collecting blue dragon scales may not be as safe as it used to be. Remember those times when the place was constantly packed? Anyway, after "playing cheezburger" for one of the dragons, Kitt came back and killed the poor creature. Twelve times.

"I killed that dragon 12 more times before I felt better."

And suddenly I realized that this is exactly what I am doing to Vyrewatch vampires now. When did I do the Darkness of Hallowvale? Two years ago? But I still can't forget the darkness and despair of this quest. The ghetto was so depressing and the crime was (is) unforgivable. So I am back there, killing Vyrewatch vampires with awfully slow and weak Ivandis Rod, and I don't even need to pray Piety - it comes naturally.

Two Accounts?

Kitt Fox talks about her reasons for having (and paying for) two Runescape accounts. And not a typical "main & pure" pair, but two independent balanced skillers. She is the only person I know who has such setup. I wonder if it is indeed that rare - probably is.

More common cases (and, of course, we are talking about member accounts only):

  • Main and a Pure Pker
  • Main and a Pure Skiller
  • Main and a "Goal" account (for instance, an account to get untrimmed Slayer cape)
  • Main and a Quester (this is something I've been actually thinking about, but then Jagex mentioned that they will eventually allow to redo quests)

Are there others?
