Honor Pkers

I'd like to point you to two articles from Zybez blog today. Both about being an "honor" pker. The first one talks about the old wilderness and the second about Bounty Hunter. Interestingly enough, the issue is exactly the same in both places. The world changes, but people remain the same.

As to which side I'd take... I think, I would go with revenants. At least they do not verbally abuse their victims :-)

Runescape Ads Filtering

You may have noticed some changes in the blog layout. There were indeed a few things I changed in the last few days. First of all, I added the Blog History and Blog Topics sections, so you could find older posts much easier.
Also I finally decided to do something about various Runescape Gold ads, which Google kept showing in the blog. Believe me, I liked them no more than you...
People sometime think that it is easy to filter the ads, well, I can tell you it is NOT, especially for 'a one person team'. I would never be able to do it by myself. It is one of the reasons why I don't have any ads at Runewise. Fortunately, Joost from Runetower was very kind to share with me a pre-compiled filter which he and Aliensvortex from Global Runescape have created. I am very grateful for that.
So the filter is in place now and should start working within next 4-5 hours (according to Google). Hopefully, it will take care about the problem.
And the last change was simply graphical, I replaced text ads with images.

Summoning in Runescape Blogs and Forums

During the last few days I was looking for bits and pieces of information about the coming Summoning Skill. Surprisingly there is not much. Players are more concerned with major changes in the trading system and pking rather than long overdue new skill.
Anyway, I still managed to find some interesting links:

Non-runescape article about fishermen summoning dolphins to help with hoarding their prey (I know, I know it has nothing to do with Runescape, but I found the whole matter very fascinating).

Runescape Grand Excange. First impressions.

Here we go. Grand Exchange is there and it is working. Not perfect, but still a big help to every skiller. I personally was able to sell a lot of things there, clean up my bank and collected a good chunk of money. My sells included 30K maple logs (82 ea), 300 dueling rings (3800 ea), pieces of black and while mystic armors and 20 rune kites (47k ea). I also bought tons of second ingredients for Herblore as well as raw sharks. So far so good.
Overall community took the update quite positively too. The votes I saw had about 80% positive answers. And as prices get adjusted, I am sure, more and more people will find the Grand Exchange useful.
Are the problems? Well, yes. As with almost any update there are bugs and issues and there are people who rightfully or wrongfully complain about the change. The main issue is, of course, 5% limit and infrequent price updates. One very negative, but still worth reading, article about it can be found on TruthScape. My take on it is that the prices will eventually settle down and 5% limit won't matter that much.
Other potential issues: new items, affect on shops, sharp drop in prices of some commodities (like sharks), ease of money laundering for gold farmers. There are more, actually.

OK, so what are my first impressions? Here is the list:
1. I love it. No more standing in banks, switching worlds and shouting around.
2. It indeed works, while I sleep, yahoo!
3. I can buy as many red spider eggs as I want to, yes!
4. Sold 30K maple logs 82ea. I am not dreaming, am I?
5. Where all this extra space in my bank came from?
6. I wish the market would be a bit more flexible and prices get adjusted quicker.
7. I guess the selling crowds won't disappear, they just changed location.
8. Excuse me, why the things I want to sell can be sold only for the minimum price?
9. I wonder will there be a limitation introduced on player-to-player trades in the future? I can see it coming and it would definitely end real world trading (gold for money) problem. But would I like it? I don't know.
10. But hey, I just sold black mystic bottom I had in my bank for more than a year!

And so it goes. Enjoy :-)

Making the Runescape Community better? Huh?

There is this bit that ticking me off.
Just read a post of a rather high-level and overall respected player. First he complained that Runescape community is bad and then he went on describing how he loves messing up with people in the game: getting them angry and rather cruelly joking on beggars. Because begging is annoying and messing up with people makes the game less boring. Then there was a bunch of supporting comments from the blog readers: "wow, cool, next time I'll do this joke too" etc.
Now, think about it, this is exactly the kind of behavior that poisons the community. It is not a bit better then begging, flaming, luring, scamming and such. If you want the community be better, start with yourself!
If you want good and nice people around you, be a good and nice person yourself!

P.S. I am not linking the post that ticked me off. My response is already too negative.

Runescape Blogs and Blog Engines

As you can imagine I read quite a few Runescape related blogs every day. I started with a few favorite blogs but since then the list has grown a lot. Moreover, I found several Runescape blogging networks, which is a fascinating topic by itself. In this post I will list such networks. I am sure there are more, but these are the ones I know about and regularly visit:
1. Don't laugh but I do find a lot of quality Runescape blogs on Google's blogger.com
2. WordPress.com is another popular blogging engine. For instance, a lot of RSBandB bloggers use it.
3. Sal's blogging network. There are several very interesting blogs out there.
4. Runewire is a Runescape micro-blogging service from RSBandB. Great idea, sleek implementation. I personally use it from time to time.
5. RuneBlog.org. New site I found recently and added to my list.
6. There also used to be a blogging service at RunescapeRegistry, but it is not working at this moment.

There is also one blog at blog.com I visit regularly (guess whose blog is it :-) ). I imagine there will be more Runescape blogs there over time.

Finally, a few words about Tip.it and Zybez blogging capabilities. Well, I didn't find blogs at Zybez/RSC. As for Tip.it, there are blogs there, but they are organized as forum topics, which makes them extremely hard to browse and search. I decided to exclude Tip.it blogs from my list after a few attempts.
