Should we pay farmers in Runescape?

Neat guide from Tip.it AOW about power farming. Among other things it mathematically proves why it is not worth to pay farmers to look after most of the trees. Good guide, correct formulas. But...

One thing is missing: specifically, paying farmers to look after trees and allotments is an essential part of the skill and one of the big factors that makes Farming a fun skill to raise. I get much more satisfaction out of my Farming levels, when I know that every seed I planted is obtained within the game and not bought at GE, when I know that I did everything I could to protect my plants and trees from cold and disease. That's why I still do plant oaks and apple trees (at lvl 95 Farming) and I do pay farmers to look after them whenever I can. And all these nice mathematical formulas mean absolutely nothing. You can't measure fun in GP.

Is time not worth money also? I would pay the farmers every time and not sweat paying a little extra if it saves time. Who wants to constantly check on trees just to save some coin. Pay the farmers, Its worth it.

Agreed mr anonymous.

If you lose 1 in 10 magic trees and you plant 100 trees 10 lots of 10k xp (Roughly) lost for the sake of a few coconuts, that's 2 days growing time, you need more than 100 mage trees for 99 farming, false economy if you ask me I will always pay the extra.

The only exception is Calquat, you cant pay the farmer to look after them and the cost per seed is minimal, its no big deal if one of those dies its more of a bonus if it lives, and they normally do.

I pay the farmer as often as I can. Which is nearly always.

And I plant every seed I get my hands on, including the oaks/apples etc. I do my daily farming run while I consider what I want to do that day.

Consistent xp is worth a lot to me. I don't understand people who don't like farming, it's the easiest xp in the game.

Hey man! That is my guide! Thanks for the PR.

You might have missed the point by a bit though on your post. Basically most stuff is good to pay for, but paying for yews and magics doesn't make sense. The seeds are so expensive that you save enough money by not paying for them to buy more seeds than you would lose to deaths.

If you plant 10 magics and lose 1 that is 9 trees for 1,800,000.

If you plant 10 magics and pay for them, it is 1,800,000 plus 303,000 for the coconuts.

To me saving 300k is a lot, and I use that cash saved to buy more seeds.

That aside, I did also want to mention that I came up with the idea for this guide before the GE, and this is just an updated version. The pre-GE prices made paying for trees far worse. Remember when magic seeds were 100k and the roots sold for 80-100k? Back then you could buy 3 new magic trees for the cost of saving 1, and it made much more sense.

ps check out my blog if you get a chance. You might not like all my advice, but I do put a lot of work into it.

Thank you for the link, Turbo! I like your blog :-)

As for the argument about payment. I see your point, but I raise Farming without buying ANY seeds. All my 95 levels are raised using the seeds I get from the game by myself. Naturally, I can't even imaging allowing a rare Magic tree to die :-)

I like Farming too much, so I don't powerlevel it in any way.
