Bug Abuse and Nerfing in Runescape

Rather controversial article on Tip.it about nerfing and bug abusing. Includes very interesting history of Sara GWD exploitation.

My take on the whole issue is rather simple: use your common sense.
Found a safe spot in a dungeon intended to be the most difficult and deadly one? - it's probably a bug.
Found a way to earn triple experience without much effort - it's is a bug.
Found a way to kill people in Falador (in non PvP world) - I know, you know it is a bug.

"A lack of clarity" indeed. What in Gielinor was Deathmath trying to get across?

According to him, the only nerf was preventing Rangers from killing roahces too easily. Deathmath then complains about Jagex correcting actual bugs in the game, and then asks that they'd be put back.

Look:
"Being honest, the only real thing that got 'nerfed' was rangers killing cockroach soldiers."

"I think that the community needs to stand up and give valid reasons for why to keep such updates etc."

During the second half of the article, he then says that Jagex should conduct more rigorous testing and shouldn't allow the bugs to get into RS in the first place.

"Jagex needs some more comprehensive testing before release to prevent these kind of things."

Just what is he trying to say? >.<

There are always going to be bugs in RS, its a huge game with many options, ways and places to fight or train, there is no way they can test every eventuality.

Blizzard may well have better error checking but I wouldn't be playing Runescape if Jagex charged the same as WOW.

I find it hard to believe that Jagex would ban anyone for bug abuse unless it was intentional or they stood to gain from it.

I always use Microsoft as an example on this type of post, hundreds or thousands of people working on their software, hundreds or thousands correcting errors, even after release hundreds of bugs found and corrected regularly.

If a bug makes a task too easy I have no problem with them removing it, what's the point in playing if the challenge and time is not taken to achieve goals.

Steve's right. There are so many possibilities that everything can't be accounted for. Standing on every square in a room, wearing every possible combination of armor/weapons, casting every single kind of spell, every single range or melee option, every possible prayer combination would take forever.

People complain about the price increase and the lack of higher level updates, but then want this rigorous of testing? You can't have both.

Some bugs should definitely be fixed, like item copying. Any glitch that seems to give almost unlimited wealth or xp should be taken out. However, using the surroundings and things around you to kill a boss is a credit to the player for finding them out. Found a way to kill something 6-7 times after 500 attempts? Good for you.
