Was looking for a merchanting clan in Runescape to write about. Couldn't find a real one yet... Virtually no traces in internet, at least I couldn't dig them up. There are references to clan chats, but it seems that real price manipulation business is conducted in via IRC channels.
The only widely spread information I found was about "A Dark Alley" A C I D Y's clan chat. Checked it out, there were indeed a lot of players in chatting about price manipulation schemes and seemingly doing some, but I got an impression that the clan chat was mostly used for dumping and pumping AFTER serious price manipulators already made the move. So most of the clan chat participants were "to be victims" of some unknown "behind the scene" price manipulators. Rather sick place to abide if you ask me.
So no luck in finding "real" merch clans in Runescape, but I am now pretty sure that there are such clans, though I still doubt they control the Grand Exchange - they just make quick (and presumably big) money on selected items, that's it. And, no, I don't have any desire to join such clan, but I'd love to know more about these people and their organizations.
Anyone knows anything more?

it is quite obvious when some "influence" takes effect on GE items.
Eg glorys in oct08. GE price was range bound for a couple of months at around 30k. Then consistent max price buying started and lasted for several weeks until px topped out around 50k. During that time the buy queue at max price picked up any sellers.
All glory related items moved in similar fashion - crystal keys, dragonstone and glorys at all levels of charge.
A lot of GP would have been needed to sustain all of these buying queues.
Maybe clans do have the billions required to do this.
Maybe jagex itself is working the GE.
They do exist, I am part of one. I will not disclose the clan leader's name, but we have over 150 members with over 5m, many with over 15m. At this time we are merching drag boots...they've gone up 50k in three days, just try selling one of yours for max in the GE, it will sell instantly. In response to your statement, we do have the billions required to do this ;)
There is a f2p item clan. They are very good at manipulating the GE. "We make gp" is the name of the clan. they have 500+ mems with average 10m to spend on merching. we are buying power amys they went up like 600gp in 2 days! its crazy you may also contact we make gp at www.youtube.com/wemakegp
well, these clans do exist, but as you said, they only focus on a few items, for instance, the clan I follow along with is merching gold ammies and necklaces and have had a constant 7% increase per day. most of the ranks in this clan have 50M+ that they invest. To see a major success of this clan, check out the 180-day graph for uncut dragonstone.
THe only problem is that you have to find the clan first. I have found the best way to find legit clans in RS is to actually go in-game and hang around the GE, I have heard of at least 3 successful and legit merching clans this way. Also, try the runescape forums, which work very well.
Of course there are these clans, go to world one and stand next to the G.E., you'll find dozens of people advertising for their Merchanting clan. A good example would be "be mercher" and "first merch" clan chats. just join the clan chats and you'll see. Oh, and i found this website made just for updates on Merchanting Clan Chats items, rsmerch.blogspot.com , you'll find the other clan chat names.
