After 1.5 years of daily blogging I received my first check from Google! For $101 :-)
Not much, but I won't complain. After Steve's disaster with Google a year ago, I was worried that I may not get anything, but fortunately for me, Google didn't question my earnings.
I am quite sure it is possible to earn more money with Runescape blog, but it would require more obtrusive ads (popups and such) or RWT ads or some kind of a special agreement with Runescape related businesses (again most probably RWT). And as I don't want to do either of these things I have to live with 18 cents a day on average.
To complete the picture, here is full financial report for both Runewise and Runescape Reader's Digest blog for 2007-2008:
I hope it won't discourage you from blogging and creating your own Runescape sites. After all there are other factors to consider apart from monetary returns. Honing your writing, communication and programming skills, for instance. Enhancing your gaming experience. Sharing a project with your kid. Making new friends. Having fun!

Nice! My goal of an easy life of blogging came to a screeching stop on the rs Economist blog after the first few months.
I suppose I could optimize my site and do more to make money off adsense, but even if I double or triple what I make, it just wouldn't be worth the time commitment required to get me there.
I hope you take that check and have a nice dinner on google.
If you are interested in getting a little more money you might want to look into Amazon's associate program:
https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/promo/buildlinks.html
If you make a link to Amazon and one of your visitors follows that link and then buys something then you get a %15 cut. This is a "reader's" digest and you occasionally talk about books so . . . If you talk about the Discworld books you can link to their spot on the Amazon site. Any fantasy or gaming book could be fair game, I think. You had a couple of posts on php, you could link to a php book that you think is good. Stuff like that.
I have not tried the program myself so I don't know if this is worth your while.
Turbo, yes, Runescape blog makes sense only if there are "non-monetary" reasons to write it. Money is only a nice bonus.
Knifestorm, thank you, I'll check it out!
that's a nice bonus! i had no idea it could even be profitable. go have a drink on them!
G, I did :-)
I have a Runescape Classic blog but I never started it for the money... though money would be a nice bonus...
