Should merchants be worried by Jagex dealing with marketplace manipulation?

Here is an official message from Jagex regarding merchanting, speculation and market price manipulation. While I am curious how do they plan to prevent market price manipulation, I am also relieved to see that Jagex's position toward people merchanting on the GE is positive.

It is official now. Merchants are not vultures after all - they do provide liquidity to the Runescape market.

Its always been official that Jagex do not disapprove of merchants, that is why they brought the GE price database.

Merchants gave a good service before GE, they don't give that service any more because it is not needed but the merchanting option is still a way for them to make cash with the GE.

So far I have heard that merchants can only buy a certain amount of the expensive armour every 4 hours, (im not sure if it goes with selling as well) this is to give the normal players chance to buy armour.

People who abuse the system will always bring unpopular updates, hopefully this will only effect the muppet price manipulators and not the occasional opportunist merchant, if it effects everyone its the price manipulators to blame not Jagex.

All players who see a price going up can buy armour now it is not limited to the most wealthy players buying hundreds of one item and getting them all.

Resources are different there will always be plenty of them coming onto the market, good luck to the manipulators trying to buy all of them.

Yes I have bought my fair share of sharks ready to sell for PVP when it comes.

Jagex will jump on Bounty Hunter RWTers and Junk trading next so if you participate in those activities its your fault when it happens.

I just want to clarify my position in regards to this post. It is true that Jagex never said that merchants are bad. But a lot of players did. I've seen many topics where players were questioning merchants role in Runescape economy after the GE, picturing merchants as unnecessary plague and blaming merchants for financial hardship of regular respectable players. So my post is really an answer to these accusations. Jagex officially confirmed that merchants do perform an important function in Runescape market mechanics.

Its really interesting how people blame the merchants.

Its like how people blame the government, the banks, their work for all their troubles.

As far as I'm concerned merchants do have a role in the economy - we provide liquidity and often we provide convinience. We'll buy underpriced items now in the hope of selling them later.

I like my role to be honest =]
