I played Runescape through the elections race last evening with TV at background. Apparently I didn't need the TV after all. Every new development highlighted on the TV was almost instantaneously repeated in Runescape by the players. I've never seen Runescape world so mixed up with RL stuff. A hurricane called "US Elections" landed in Gielinor, flooded its cities and filled their streets with political debris.
Several player moderators were trying to stop it at the Grand Exchange, muting and threatening especially vocal commentators. Futile effort.
You can't stop forces of nature. You just have to let it pass.

You can't really stop people from talking about politics. You, usually, can't get them to talk INTELLIGENTLY about politics either.
That would have been interesting to witness at least. Kind of bummed I wasn't online.
