China Bans Gold Farming (thanks to Jagex's twitter). Will other countries in Asia follow the suit? Probably not yet, so we should expect more gold farms appear in south east Asia and India, but this legislation is still one major blow to the whole gold farming industry.

Interesting.
But on a closer look it seems that the new regulation only covers GP for cash transactions.
"The Chinese government, however, appears to be uninterested in regulating sales of in-game items for real cash. A report in the English-language China Daily says that in-game gear is not considered virtual currency, so selling virtual items can be expected to continue."

Well, it's a step in the right direction.

I attended some game-related presentations recently and it is notable that game makers are most interested in security to keep their High Scores list secure (this is more important to them than piracy even). The game maker's perspective is that cheaters compromise the game's community and can lead to a game's downfall as certainly as poor game-play can.
