Different look at Slayer

Somewhat mixed up, yet quite unusual look at the Slayer skill. One quote especially caught my attention:
"you level each of your combat stats as a side-effect, making them be a result of playing, instead of the cause of playing. As a result of that any non-slayer combat feels like a "waste" because you are *just* getting combat experience."
Isn't it true? Gosh, that's how I raise my combat. Suddenly it sounds like some kind of a trap...

Mixed feeling on that post, the first guy made a lot of sense the second guy should have been sat in the classroom wearing a cone shaped hat with d on it.

I agree training combat without training slayer is a total waste of time and money but people pick up coin drops when training slayer again a total waste of time and money.

If I had started training slayer when I first started playing Runescape I would be 99 easily by now, if I had not picked up coin drops when I first started playing I would have been getting better drops a lot quicker, we live and learn!

If you want to train combat why not get some free xp at the same time and train slayer, pick up charms and train summoning between slayer levels, I noticed if you are training slayer and watching your slayer level combat goes up without noticing.

The muppet at the end, what an awful attitude, if you see a player training slayer in an inefficient way perhaps wrong armour or prayer when fighting to take a pic and post it on a forum instead of offering the player help the title of noob passes over to the experienced player.

Im 98 slayer and when I get to 99 in the next week or 2 I will make sure I don't join the "Slayers' Guild Forum" or should it be the "Slayer Noob Forum"

And to his last sentence, do not care about what people think of your goals and achievements, if you have worked hard for it and proud of it it doesn't matter what some noob thinks of it.

I agree with Steve, that second post was pretty awful. Making fun of and posting pictures for others to make fun of people just because they're inexperienced or make mistakes is kind of pretentious elitism that I'm surprised doesn't drive more from the game.

I go either way on slayer. I do like getting cb levels as a side effect at the same time if I get a task I'm hesitant to do, yet don't want to cancel it because of the points, I find myself avoiding it for a while. However, that's just my mindset. I wish I had gotten into this skill at a lower cb level as I do find it enjoyable. It takes some of the boredom out of training cb as well as throwing in some good drops.

Plus I want to get it so I can get revenge on the skeletal wyvern in the ice cave that killed me when I was a curious lvl 60.... just you wait... vengeance will be mine wyvern!

wat an interesting article. really makes slayer seem like an addiction, or something a person falls in love with, and life without it is pointless... love it!
